Dental professionals who work as part of a team are familiar with the collaboration and co-operation that exists in a dental practice.
Of course, not everyone’s views are always the same and personalities vary, but as that special combination of knowledge, experience and different skills come together great things can be achieved.
In order to learn or research, it is often necessary to gather differing perspectives together to provide a comprehensive understanding of a subject. This may not always give us definite answers immediately, but it can offer a stimulus to direct future education and ultimately, influence practice.
This is the idea behind the British Dental Conference and Dentistry Show 2018, where a comprehensive programme of education and different learning opportunities will be available for all dental professionals.
With more than 140 seminars and workshops planned, there is something to inspire every member of the dental team and with the opportunity to meet and connect with like-minded peers, it promises to be the dental event of the year.
At the Next Generation Conference, to name just one location, delegates will be able to hear from a fabulous lineup of international speakers, and brothers Sanjay and Nik Sethi are coming together to co-present a session called ‘Anterior Composite Restorations with Double the Vision.’ Both highly accomplished dentists are in private practice in London and the dynamic pair plan to bring out the fun side and deliver a fast-paced session.
Sanjay said: ‘We want to deliver an exciting, energetic session to really get the audience charged. There will be onstage discussions, and Nik and I will also pitch against each other and initiate some lively debate.
‘Each of us intends to discuss the evolution and the current rationale for using composite resin restorations in the anterior zone. This will be supported with clinical studies and evidence-based dentistry. Yet, the point we are making is that although our clinical views and techniques may differ, we each have the same end goal in focus.’
This lecture aims to offer increased understanding on composite placement rationale and the chance to appreciate the pros and cons of anterior composite restorations (ACRs). The brothers also intend to provide a long term, realistic picture of ACRs and discuss what can reasonably be expected from them in terms of aesthetics and function.
They will discuss what happens if ACRs fail to any degree and what can be done to avoid or rectify these situations.
After exploring ACRs from all angles, Sanjay and Nik will also investigate alternative options, considering the costs both
biologically and financially as well as the long-term outcomes.
With many years of postgraduate education and clinical experience between them, Sanjay and Nik are sure to bring a unique perspective to this subject. When asked what they hope delegates to take away from this session, they agreed:
‘We are hoping that after sharing our experiences, delegates will come away with an increased understanding of case planning techniques to aid predictable outcomes; whether that is in the laboratory, at the chair side or a combination of both.
‘We also intend to help delegates to identify their own comfort zones and to recognise their limitations when dealing with extensive or complex cases using ACRs.
‘This should then act as a guide in terms of further training or referral, and also support the clinical experience and skills that have already been acquired.
‘We are currently in the process of developing a course to enable the further, more detailed study of anterior composite restorations, so this session is designed
to give delegates a little taste—an introduction, if you like.’
Sanjay and Nik are looking forward to speaking at the British Dental Conference and Dentistry Show 2018 and Sanjay said:
‘This all-encompassing event offers dental professionals a unique
chance to gain perspectives from many
different angles.
‘Also, education is about sharing—everyone can learn from one another by sharing experiences, considering different views and giving each other ideas.’
Collaborating too for the first time this year, CloserStill Media and the British Dental Association are aiming to ensure that the British Dental Conference and Dentistry Show is the event of 2018.
With more learning opportunities than ever before as well as a huge trade exhibition, this two-day dental extravaganza really does have something for everyone.
