BACD Meetings

BACD Meetings

‘An Absolute Essential’
David Bretton was unable to attend past BACD Educational Meetings because of the night format. The switch to a daytime format led the Huddersfield-based dentist to participate in July’s meeting, “A-Z Management of a Complex Case,” in Manchester.

“The day format allows speakers to go into depth on their topics, with plenty of learning opportunities and time for discussion. One of the speakers in Manchester was Ian Buckle, and I wouldn’t miss the opportunity to hear someone of his level speak,” Bretton said. “The speakers aimed to provide interactive presentations and encourage us to discuss the cases, rather than just present the ‘right answer’ to us, which meant the content was absorbed on a much deeper level.

“Would I attend more BACD Educational Meetings in the future? That’s a no-brainer: I feel that BACD membership is absolutely essential for all dentists who wish to get involved in any form of cosmetic dentistry. This is particularly true for younger dentists who have little to no grounding in cosmetic dentistry from their undergraduate training. The quality of the speakers is exceptional and the regional educational meetings are great value for money!”

Moving Forward
“My aim as BACD president has been to enhance the Academy’s academic prestige,” says Dr. Andrew Chandrapal, right, whose tenure at the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry is coming to an end in November. “To this end, we have radically changed our meetings programme in order to enhance the quality of education on offer.

“What’s more, the academy will also be publishing a list of new, best practice assessment protocols that will be available to every BACD member—and, with these, we are aiming to set the standard for treatment planning and assessment.

“Personally, I am most proud of upcoming annual conference. It really was a fantastic event—and, this year, we were delighted to welcome a world-renowned keynote speaker, Dr. Francesca Vailati, who had never before lectured in the UK.

“Ultimately, the BACD is about education and I believe it will always be about the education, in order to improve the standard of dentistry for both practitioners and patients.”

Chandrapal will be passing the baton to Dr. Donald Sloss at the BACD annual conference in November—but his contribution and dedication to the Academy will not be forgotten.

Recommended Meetings
Always striving to be at the very forefront of dental education, the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (BACD) will be bringing aspiring dental professionals an unmatched programme of recommended, educational meetings this year.

These day sessions will be held in venues around the country, from Glasgow and Belfast to London and Manchester. Each led by two of the industry’s most progressive dental professionals, the topics that will be covered are as eclectic as cosmetic dentistry itself.

The BACD Regional Meetings programme is an excellent opportunity for dentists around the UK to network with like-minded colleagues and learn more about the world of cosmetic dentistry.

“The new one-day format for the meetings is excellent,” said Fraser Tait.

Be sure to keep an eye out for the next BACD Recommended Meeting in your area, and make sure you book your place as soon as possible!
