POLL: CAD/CAM

With any new technology, dentists need to determine how it would benefit the patients and the practice and whether it would be cost effective to implement. We polled the Townies and found that the majority of the dentists agree that digital impressions would be an advantage over regular impressions, due to their accuracy. Seventy-six percent of the conventional labs used by these dentists are already using CAD/CAM technology now.

The initial cost is the major roadblock to purchasing CAD/CAM technology. For digital impression systems, almost half of the surveyed dentists agreed that $14,000 with $3,600 for annual maintenance would be a fair entry price and that the training should be completed with the manufacturer experts, or with other dentists having the same technology.

If the milling unit is added, the major advantage would be the savings in time, not only for the patient but also in the office schedule, since the restorative could be completed in one visit, not two.

Choosing which technology to add to their practices, either the imaging system alone or imaging plus the onsite milling unit was difficult. Dentists gave a slight edge to the imaging with the onsite milling system. Don’t be left behind! Check into CAD/CAM dentistry systems today.
