You Should Know: OperaPager
by Benjamin Lund, Editor,
Dentaltown Magazine
Inter-office communication systems are one of the most important aspects of a well-oiled
dental practice. Dentaltown Magazine sat down with Dr. Bryan Laskin, one of the founders of
OperaPager, to learn more about the purpose of the company.
What is your personal background prior
to starting OperaPager? How did you get
started in dentistry?
Laskin: I graduated from the University of
Minnesota Dental School in 1999. I always have had
a keen interest in technology, programming and selling
computers since high school, and playing pong
since elementary school. I also have a love for working
with my hands, health care and business, so dentistry
was a perfect fit.
What is your philosophy at OperaPager?
What is your goal?
Laskin: OperaPager is the simplest
communication device. We want to
provide dental offices of all size easy,
clear communication between operatories
and throughout the office. Our
goal is to be the cloud-based system
for all aspects of dental and medical
communication.
What would you consider to be
the "best kept secret" about
OperaPager?
Laskin: We are just getting started.
Single-touch paging is a simple preview
of what's to come. Our goal is to
improve the efficiency of care, and
coordination between team members
within offices, as well as between
multiple offices.
How is your software developed?
Laskin: The beauty of our company is that I
develop the efficient communication flow, based on
wet-fingered dentistry in a busy multi-doctor office,
and my partner, Troy Brandt, has a keen eye for
design and application interfaces. We have the best of both worlds tweaking the design before we give it to
our developers, who make any modifications we
desire quickly.
How easy is it for a dentist to incorporate
your system in to his or her practice?
Laskin: As easy as downloading the free app from
the iTunes store, or the small program off our Web
site, OperaPager.com. We have a Web-based setup to
customize devices and messages. Once you contact us,
we will provide your username and password, and you
are off and running.
What kind of service can dentists
expect when they pick up
the phone and call you?
Laskin: We have multiple people
who can provide service in
both technical and clinical areas. I
have staff members who have been
very involved in the development
process who can provide recommendations
on device configuration,
or if you have a technical
question we have people on staff
who do programming for a range
of devices available. We also partner
with local IT companies if a
service tech is necessary.
