Throughout the nineties, dentists who purchased practice management software, intraoral cameras and digital diagnostic devices, needed to be well versed in technical specifications and coordinate their purchases with a wide array of different manufacturers. Systems integration was almost non-existent between different equipment. If a dentist was fortunate enough to be able to plan, purchase, install and integrate digital technology within their practice, they were often times left with compromised configurations and substantial equipment downtime.
As systems design and digital technology is not commonly a universal core competency among dentists, there was a crucial need for dentists to be able to easily implement new technology. Dentists required a way to easily share their diagnostic findings with patients and communicate with referring specialists and insurance companies without placing additional pieces of equipment into an already crowded operatory. CIEOS utilized this unique opportunity to accommodate the advent of digital dentistry by providing an innovative blend of services and products to progressive practices focused on delivering the highest levels of patient care in the most efficient and effective manner.
Recognizing the need for computer systems integration, specifically focused on the dental industry, Ekram Khan founded the CIEOS Corporation, along with his brother Enamul. Before co-founding CIEOS, Enamul spent many years in the executive ranks of several Fortune 500 corporations. His background focused in engineering and corporate management, while Ekram has spent many years in the healthcare industry and is currently completing a Masters in Medical Informatics. Ekram currently serves on the ADA Standard’s Committee on Dental Informatics.
The Khan brothers quickly focused their attention on dentistry’s need for higher levels of integration to accommodate the wide variety of technological products available to modern dental practices. CIEOS was developed to provide the dental industry with what can best be described as a full service digital integration and consultation company.
CIEOS’ continued growth has allowed them to provide a full staff of consultants that are available to assist you in ascertaining your specific needs. In addition, they have the capability to provide continued project management to ensure complete integration and optimum digital operations within your practice.
Their experienced staff of engineers, computer-networking consultants, and practice management consultants can personally tailor a digital infrastructure and implementation strategy that fits your specific project timeline and allocated budget. Vital information to access your needs is obtained from completing a needs assessment form. CIEOS’ highly trained staff integrates the best of breed products in the categories of operatory computing hardware, practice management software, digital imaging software, intra-oral cameras, and digital x-ray systems in designing your personalized system.
To date, no dental systems integration provider has established a national presence. Local firms, throughout the country, often lack specific dental industry technical expertise and vital management experience to efficiently design systems that will integrate all digital elements within a dental practice environment. Many local system integrators possess only generic networking skills with little or no expertise in addressing the unique requirements of healthcare informatics. CIEOS is utilizing the economies of multiple resources to offer unique workflow benefits on a clinical computing platform. CIEOS consistently strives to provide outstanding service and individualized systems.

Customer Service
Since its inception, customer service and satisfaction has been at the core of everything CIEOS does for their clients. They achieve high levels of satisfaction by delivering products and services that take the guesswork out of implementing digital technologies into the dental office. Their staff of consultants has extensive experience that enables them to match each dental practice’s specific needs with the appropriate technologies--like practice management software, digital x-ray systems, and digital imaging systems.
Currently their dental clients utilize CIEOS’ expertise to plan, purchase, and install seamlessly integrated computer networks into their practices. When the project is completely installed, the CIEOS team stands behind their product and is available to troubleshoot any future problems without the typical finger pointing that often results when there are multiple equipment vendors.
CIEOS’ operating philosophy is based on three simple concepts: Accountability, Integrity, and Reliability.
Accountability
CIEOS is fully accountable for any system they design or install. They have integrated every major practice management software program, imaging, and digital x-ray system on the market functioning on Windows-based computer networks. As the old adage infers… “Practice makes perfect.” Utilizing their vast experience base, CIEOS has learned what works, what doesn’t and how to solve integration problems.
Integrity
CIEOS objectively evaluates and tests digital equipment. They’re unbiased evaluation allows them to be their client’s personal advocates–they do not accept economic compensation allowing them the freedom to recommend products based on performance.
Reliability
CIEOS utilizes high-end components for all of their technology solutions. Because they utilize best of breed products, CIEOS’ technology solutions have a slightly higher initial cost of implementation, but in the long run deliver a significantly lower total cost of ownership over three years than competing solutions. CIEOS provides the following services to dental practices:
Computer Networking Systems Integration
Practice Management Software Integration
Intraoral Camera and Digital X-ray Integration
Custom Software Development
Proprietary Device Development
Complete Installation, Training, and Support Services

CIEOS Products include:
The cieOport - This is a patented slim profile operatory computer that is based on a sealed touchscreen flat panel LCD display that is disinfectable and is capable of being wirelessly networked.
Computer Aided Intercom Software - CAI is a collaboration and intra-office messaging tool utilizing text to speech synthesis to facilitate communications between staff members. Instead of using an antiquated light system with flashing colors, you can send messages in plain English from any computer on the network to another computer. The message will simply scroll across the top of the display. This product was designed to work with all Cieos products or can be installed on any existing Windows based computer network.
Network in a Box – Based on your specific needs, CIEOS can provide fully integrated computer networks with dedicated servers and as many clinical and administrative workstations as required. Their highly trained technicians can install and test all popular software applications and digital devices and deliver the fully integrated and tested network to your office ready for installation.
CIEOS is and will continue to be a service and support company. They provide services that integrate complex computer and software technologies and enable the workflow of digital dentistry. They accomplish this mission by:
Using Microsoft Windows NT and Windows 98 in dedicated server networks.
Installing and configuring practice management software (Practiceworks, Softdent, Dentrix, etc.).
Integrating digital tools like intra-oral cameras, digital x-ray sensors, and cosmetic imaging software.
Providing post installation training and support. CIEOS can remotely diagnose and rectify most problems and can have a technician make an onsite visit to make hardware repairs. They include post installation training and ongoing consulting with all of their solutions.
Protection where you need it most
Cieos provides high-end servers and workstations for networks with maximum uptime. Networks are designed to protect your most valuable asset – your patient data. Mirrored hard drives on the server and a comprehensive disaster recovery plan achieve unparalleled levels of data protection. CIEOS achieves increased network reliability by utilizing technologies and strategies that manage your data seamlessly and with minimal user intervention. Their custom-built servers have redundant hard drives. Multimedia clinical workstations have the fast Pentium processors and increased memory for image capture and DVD multimedia patient education and entertainment.
Servers have mirrored SCSI hard drives with hot swap capability and high-speed digital tape backup drives.
Clinical workstations have sealed flat panel touch screens, DVD drives, Video Capture cards for intra-oral cameras, a second video card for dual display support, and wireless keyboards and mice. Administrative workstations utilize Flat Panel LCD displays and wireless keyboards and mice for improved ergonomics.
Over the next five to ten years, the market for comprehensive computing platforms in clinical environments is predicted to virtually explode. CIEOS is preparing to meet that challenge by expanding their presence throughout North America. New regional offices will be opening soon in major metropolitan areas. In addition, CIEOS plans to utilize the existing dental software infrastructure and partner with software resellers who have been trained and certified by CIEOS. By utilizing existing systems and engaging universal synergies, CIEOS is prepared to continue their growth and incredible success in the new and exciting computerized age of dentistry. They’re goal is to earn the distinction of being the nationally recognized leader in providing digital network integration solutions throughout North America.
