Glidewell Dental Kicks Off Leadership Program Geared Toward Women in Dentistry
Glidewell Dental has officially launched Guiding Leaders, a leadership development program for women in dentistry. The company began the program with a two-day training course in Irvine, California, with a group of 13 female dentists participating in the program’s first year. Seven of the 13 dentists are Townies.
Stephenie Goddard, an executive vice president at Glidewell, created the leadership program after being inspired by the current shift in dentistry where women now account for approximately 50 percent of dental school graduates. Earlier this year, a committee selected the dentists through a nationwide application process to participate in the new program. They were chosen based on their dentistry background, career achievements and leadership potential.
Guiding Leaders is designed to empower practicing female clinicians to become influential voices in dentistry by providing them with training from top industry professionals. The 12-month program, which covers a range of topics including practice management, effective communication and principles of finance, began with a session from facilitator Jo Schaeffer-Crabb of the Arbinger Institute discussing the importance of developing an outward mindset.
Glidewell plans to continue Guiding Leaders next year with a new group of participants. The company looks forward to building an ongoing community of women who provide support and guidance to each other while mentoring newer professionals in coming years.
Zimmer Biomet and RTI Surgical Partner to
Expand Access to Dental Care for Veterans
Zimmer Biomet and RTI Surgical Holdings are donating a supply of dental implants and wound care products to the American Academy of Implant Dentistry Foundation (AAIDF) for an initiative benefiting veterans of the U.S. armed forces. The AAIDF is the charitable arm of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry, a Chicago-based professional organization that advances the science and practice of implant dentistry through education and research support and serves as the credentialing standard for implant dentistry.
For some patient populations, including U.S. veterans, with higher rates of pre-existing conditions such as diabetes, arthritis and certain cancers, the material used for implants plays a significant role in promoting enhanced bone healing. With the support and resources provided through the AAIDF initiative, dental procedures will be available to even more veterans.
Under the new partnership, Zimmer Biomet, through its dental division, donated thousands of collagen wound care products that will be used in socket preservation procedures preparing veterans to receive dental implant therapy. RTI’s donation includes allograft implants that provide options for veterans undergoing dental implant surgery.
