Since the Beginning: PracticeWorks Systems, LLC

For the last 10 years, support from companies like PracticeWorks Systems, LLC, has been crucial to Dentaltown's success. In celebrating our 10th anniversary, we also celebrate these companies that have consistently supported us since the beginning. We e-mailed some questions to Richard Hirschland, president, Dental Systems Group, Carestream Health (parent company of PracticeWorks), to discover the impact Dentaltown has had on PracticeWorks, as well as the entire dental profession over the last 10 years.

Do you see a difference when working with Townies vs. dental professionals who do not use Dentaltown.com?
Townies are definitely more tech savvy. They also tend to rely upon peer communications on Dentaltown.com as a primary resource to resolve questions or problems. We think that this level of communication has helped the profession embrace the Internet as a vital source of information, while simultaneously educating users on the vast advances being made in digital dental imaging technology.

What immediate changes are coming down the pipeline from PracticeWorks that dental professionals can look forward to soon?
Innovative digital imaging systems remain a hallmark of our R&D efforts. Our new KODAK 1500 Intraoral Camera captures still images and video with the highest resolution currently available and features unique liquid lens technology (patent pending) for true auto-focus. The liquid lens uses light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to allow improved visualization of hard-to-see areas including cracks and other lesions and potential oral hygiene issues. The system is extremely easy to use and offers built-in Wi-Fi wireless capabilities to provide total freedom of movement without any wired connections between the camera and docking station.

We are expanding our portfolio of 3D imaging systems with the new KODAK 9500 3D Extraoral Imaging System that delivers exceptionally detailed mid- and large- field of view images. This system is designed to verify correct placement of complex implants in relation to nerves and other structures as well as orthodontic, oral and maxillofacial applications that require detailed visualization of how the bones of the face and jaws relate with the teeth and airway.

We also continue to enhance our practice management software and introduce new ways to improve workflow, such as real-time filing of electronic claims and the KODAK Acquisition Module's ability to immediately capture images for patients who are already in the office and communicate those images to the practice management software's scheduler.
