Mitsui Chemicals to Acquire Ultradent Products

Mitsui Chemicals, the parent company of Kulzer, announced plans to acquire Ultradent Products. The acquisition would bring Ultradent together with Kulzer, creating a larger global dental materials organization with expanded research, manufacturing, and clinical capabilities. According to the companies, the combination is intended to strengthen product development, broaden global reach, and support integrated clinical and digital workflows for dental professionals. Mitsui Chemicals said it plans to maintain continuity for Ultradent’s leadership, employees, and operations.

Dentsply Sirona Appoints New CFO

Dentsply Sirona announced the appointment of John Fortson as executive vice president and chief financial officer, effective July 20. Fortson brings more than 25 years of experience in finance, operations, and strategy across public and private-equity-backed companies. He joins Dentsply Sirona from Kymera. Previously, he held executive leadership positions at Ingevity Corporation. Fortson said he looks forward to working with the leadership team to strengthen performance, support growth initiatives, and create long-term value for shareholders.

FDA Posts Class 2 Recall for Sagemax NexxZr Zirconia Discs

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has posted an open Class 2 recall for a Sagemax Bioceramics zirconia disc used to fabricate fixed all-ceramic restorations. The recall affects NexxZr T Multi A3.5 W98-16mm discs (lot YBDGLD) after the manufacturer identified a process control issue that may result in a reduced or missing dentin layer, increasing the risk of restoration fracture after placement. The recall covers 113 units distributed in the U.S. and internationally. Customers were instructed to stop using affected products, segregate inventory and arrange returns with the company. The FDA posted the recall June 9.

ADA Guideline Advises Against Light-Based Adjuncts for Oral Cancer Detection

The American Dental Association has updated its living guideline on early oral cancer detection to advise against using light-based adjunct devices, such as autofluorescence and tissue-reflectance tools, to determine whether a patient needs a biopsy. Published June 2 in The Journal of the American Dental Association, the recommendation is based on a systematic review of 36 studies that found high false-positive rates and low-certainty evidence. The guideline reaffirms that biopsy with histopathologic assessment remains the gold standard for diagnosing oral cancer and potentially malignant disorders.
