Pure Impact by Sofwave: A Practitioner's Look at Sofwave's Newest Technology

As aesthetic service diversification becomes part of practice planning for some healthcare providers, new technologies need to be evaluated from both a clinical and operational perspective. For practitioners considering body focused services, Pure Impact is a non-invasive body contouring technology within the Sofwave Medical platform, designed around electrical muscle stimulation.

Sofwave's published materials describe Pure Impact as using proprietary PlyoPulse™ electrical muscle stimulation (EMS) technology.

The company states that the technology is designed to strengthen and firm muscles, which makes it distinct from Sofwave's ultrasound-based applications for skin laxity and lifting.

The Clinical Basis of Pure Impact

Pure Impact was introduced as a body module utilizing PlyoPulse EMS technology. Sofwave's 2024 announcement described it as a direct add-on body module to the existing FDA cleared Sofwave medical aesthetic device platform with EMS intended to deliver muscle toning and strengthening across multiple muscle groups during a treatment session.

Current Sofwave materials describe Pure Impact VIP as using functional, three directional stimulation designed to support muscle strength, performance and long term progression.

The company's clinical library also lists recent research examining functional performance, body perception and safety following multi muscle electromuscular stimulation delivered through the Pure Impact VIP platform.

This includes a randomized controlled study published in Aesthetic Surgery Journal, "Functional Performance, Subject-body Perception, and Safety Following Multi-muscle Electromuscular Stimulation", which Sofwave reports found the treatment well tolerated with no adverse events reported.

For practitioners, the important distinction is that Pure Impact is positioned around muscle stimulation rather than the skin focused mechanism associated with Sofwave ultrasound technology.

Training and Certification Considerations

Before introducing any new technology, practitioners need to establish how it will be operated within their clinical environment and what training is required.

Sofwave's safety information states that the Pure Impact VIP system is designed for use by health professionals under physician supervision. It also specifies that electrode placement and stimulation settings should follow the guidance of the prescribing practitioner.

Training and certification requirements should therefore be confirmed with Sofwave and considered alongside the professional and regulatory requirements applicable to the practice's location.

For dental practices in particular, this includes confirming with the relevant state dental board whether body-focused aesthetic treatments fall within the practice's scope.

For a practice adding an aesthetic service, establishing appropriate training before treatment begins is part of creating a consistent clinical workflow.

Patient Candidacy and Consultation

Sofwave's published indications for Pure Impact include improvement of abdominal tone and strengthening of the abdominal muscles, as well as strengthening, toning and firming of the buttocks and thighs. In 2024, the FDA also cleared Pure Impact for strengthening and firming of the arms, and Sofwave describes the Pure Impact VIP system as covering the abdomen, arms, thighs and buttocks.

A consultation allows the practitioner to review the patient's goals and relevant medical history before determining whether the technology is appropriate.

Sofwave's patient facing materials similarly describe consultation as a point where treatment goals and medical history are discussed so the treatment can be tailored to the individual.

This individualized approach is also important for informed consent.

Patients should understand the intended purpose of the treatment and what the technology is designed to address and that individual results can vary.

Workflow Fit for a Practice

For practitioners evaluating aesthetic service diversification, workflow should be considered alongside clinical use.

In 2025, Sofwave received FDA clearance for Pure Impact VIP as a standalone device, which the company says can be delegated to and administered by trained staff, and which enables simultaneous treatment of six muscle groups. Sofwave also describes more than 70 stimulation patterns that allow providers to tailor treatment to a patient's anatomy and goals.

Sofwave describes a typical session as about 30 minutes per treatment area.

Those characteristics may be relevant when determining how the service could fit into an existing practice schedule.

However, the technology still needs to be incorporated within appropriate consultation, treatment, supervision and follow up processes.

Setting Realistic Expectations

Clinical conversations should focus on appropriate expectations rather than guaranteed outcomes.

Sofwave's published materials state that results may vary, while its safety information provides specific precautions and contraindications that should be reviewed as part of responsible treatment planning.

For practitioners, informed consent is therefore more than a procedural formality. It provides an opportunity to discuss the patient's goals, explain the intended use of the technology, review relevant safety considerations and establish realistic expectations before treatment.

Evaluating Pure Impact as a Practice Addition

Pure Impact offers practitioners a technology focused on muscle strengthening, toning and firming within the Sofwave platform.

Its EMS based approach, published indications, professional use requirements and treatment workflow are all relevant when assessing whether it fits a particular practice.

For practitioners evaluating the technology in greater detail, Sofwave's official provider materials are the appropriate next resource.
