ST. LOUIS—The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) and Stand for the Silent, a nonprofit working to end bullying and youth suicide, will light nearly two dozen landmarks in the U.S. and Canada orange this month for their annual Bullying Bites campaign.

The campaign runs during National Bullying Prevention Month, which coincides with National Orthodontic Health Month. Most sites will light up on Unity Day, Oct. 21, including Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, the Peace Bridge in Buffalo, and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.

One in five students ages 12–18 report being bullied at school, according to the National Center for Education Statistics. The AAO noted that orthodontists typically see school-aged patients every six to eight weeks during treatment.

“Orthodontists have the opportunity to build relationships with young people and their families over time, which gives us an important platform to reinforce the message that everyone deserves to feel safe, accepted and supported,” said Dr. Michael Durbin, president of the AAO.

Pledge cards and campaign materials will be available in orthodontic offices and online, and AAO members can sponsor Stand for the Silent’s school assembly programs.
