SUNSET BEACH, California—Local Hope Guatemala, known in Guatemala as Xela AID, has announced its 2027 schedule of volunteer service trips to its Open Wide Legacy Dental Clinic in Guatemala’s western highlands.

The nonprofit is offering five seven-day trips: March 13–20 (sold out), April 3–10, June 5–12, Aug. 14–21, and Oct. 9–16. Custom dates and extended stays are also available.

The trips are geared toward dentists, though volunteers in other roles, family members, and friends may also participate. Participants spend three days treating patients in the clinic and join other service projects and cultural activities. Packages include lodging, meals, translation support, and transportation, according to the organization.

“Each trip is customized to the skills and interests of every participant,” said Leslie Baer Dinkel, CEO of Local Hope Guatemala.

The two-year-old clinic, located within the organization’s Xela AID Community Clinic in the Quetzaltenango area, was funded by members of the former Open Wide Foundation and the Rotary Foundation. A Rotary global grant supports a full-time dentist at the facility, which Local Hope said is the only one in the area offering ongoing professional dental care.
