Denver, Colo.—The Association of Dental Support Organizations (ADSO) welcomed the Colorado Dental Board’s decision to temporarily stay enforcement of Rule 1.7, which establishes new requirements governing relationships between dentists and dental support organizations.

The decision follows a legal challenge filed by ADSO asking the Colorado Court of Appeals to set aside the rule. ADSO argues the board exceeded its authority and that the requirements could create compliance and financial burdens for DSO-supported dental practices.

Rule 1.7 includes restrictions on DSOs leasing office space or equipment to supported practices and provisions related to disclosure of financial and business records. ADSO also raised concerns that the rule could affect access to dental care, particularly in underserved communities.

The stay will allow the legal challenge to proceed while giving the board additional time to consider the rule.
