In general, DUWL’s are prone to biofilm accumulation and formation, due in large part to their small diameter, low flow rates, and periods of stagnation. Microorganisms in dental settings can pose significant risks to patients and staff if exposed. These risks include serious infections caused by bacteria such as Legionella, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and nontuberculous Mycobacteria.
