Editor's Note By: Carol Murphy, Executive Editor

This month DentalTown is celebrating two milestones, our 4th year of publishing this magazine and our first Townie Choice Awards presentation. The first issue of DentalTown Magazine debuted in December 1999—the year of the infamousY2K hysteria.

In its third year of phenomenal growth, with over 28,000 registered members and growing larger every day, the DentalTown community has become the ‘voice’ of dentistry.

It’s been fun for everyone involved with DentalTown to watch the camaraderie that has developed and continues to grow between Townies from all over the world. The interaction between the Townies on the website provides the magazine with a large portion of it’s editorial content as well as providing an accurate and realistic guide on the challenges dentists face daily.

I’m not sure of the exact date, but the term ‘Townie’ was created by the registered members of DentalTown. Often, I’m asked, “What is a Townie?” I think the following quotes from some of our Townies very accurately describes a Dentaltown ‘Townie’.

“Everyone comes to DentalTown for mutual support, camaraderie, and enhancement of our professional and personal lives. A Townie is someone who comes to the website in friendship and respects all the other Townies. DT is a fraternity of sorts. I have made friends here that I KNOW I will have for a lifetime.

“I think DT is a useful tool to have, both for the dentist and the marketers of fine dental products. We are both seeking excellence. Now we have a realistic forum to achieve it.”

Richard Rychetsky, DDS
Texas

“I have received so much from DentalTown Magazine and the website, it’s really incredible. My practice has changed so much in one year it’s amazing. My biggest change was bringing my significant other into my practice as office manager. The change has been incredibly positive professionally and personally. Couldn’t have done it without advice from Bill S who spent a long time on the phone with me—a perfect stranger.

As we enter the holiday season and begin another new year, the entire DentalTown staff wishes you, your staff and families good health, happiness and prosperity throughout the coming year.
