Last April,
DentalTown featured Biolase Technology, a dental laser manufacturer experiencing phenomenal growth. A few weeks ago, I witnessed laser enthusiasm first-hand while attending the
World Clinical Laser Institute West Coast Symposium sponsored by Biolase at Dana Point, CA.
Since its beginning as a small group of laser users in 2000, the WCLI now has over 1000 members in 27 countries. Over 600 dentists and staff members were in attendance. Even doctors from Europe and Australia felt the meeting was important enough to justify the travel time. But the thing which impressed me the most was the amount of genuine enthusiasm displayed by both the doctors and their staffs who had experienced first-hand the miracles of laser dentistry. I was particularly intriqued to discover the diverse demographics of doctors currently using laser technology. Interestingly enough, some of the dentists who use lasers are in their 80s and have unretired after purchasing their laser. Look at the photo to the left. While I’ll admit I could have used some additional lighting in this shot, it is undeniable that laser users are not all under the age of 35!
It was interesting to just sit and listen to doctors discussing the many ways they have incorporated lasers into their practice, often saying if there was only one procedure they could perform with a dental laser, they could still easily justify the cost and be happy they owned one.
By the way, Biolase just obtained FDA clearance for laser apicoectomy and flap surgery. A complete seminar schedule of hands-on training is now available at learnlasers.com. To see when the next course is available in your area, visit the website or call Biolase directly at 1-888-424-6527.
DentalTown is very proud to present Townie Rod Kurthy’s “Holy Grail of Teeth Whitening” step-by-step procedure. Rod presented his technique at the first annual DentalTown Gathering in Las Vegas to a standing-room-only crowd. The message boards at www.dentaltown.com are still buzzing with questions and comments about the procedure. There are so many steps, I have to run it in a two-part series, so watch for the exciting conclusion in next month’s issue.
I’m sure many of you are familiar with Dr. Ronald Jordan and his impact on dentistry. The company he founded, Clinician’s Choice, is our corporate profile this month. Be sure to read how this giant in the dental industry has passed his legacy of problem-solving to his son, Peter Jordan.
