Electric System Incorporates Endo and Implant Features

Bien Air introduced electrics motors for operatory use in 1976. For decades, European dentists have been using electric handpieces for highspeed applications as a superior alternative to air driven handpieces. Over the last five years increasing numbers of US dentists have converted to electric handpieces. The popularity of electric highspeed handpieces continues to grow exponentially.

Bien Air, being the world leader, has made on-going improvements to this technology by adding new features to circuit boards, contra angles, and motors. The new Bien Air electric system, OPTIMA PLUS, not only offers unique and exciting benefits over air driven handpieces, but also incorporates features for endo and implant procedures.

For example:

  • Higher Torque — eliminates the stall out experienced with air driven handpieces
  • Perfect concentricity – reduces chatter/vibration of air driven handpieces
  • Versatile — highspeed and slowspeed applications can be accomplished with the same handpiece
  • Quiet – approximately 40% lower decibel level of a typical air driven model
  • Robust – approximately gears lasts twice as many autoclave cycles as compared to turbines in air driven handpieces

Optima Plus also offers some unique advantages over its competition:

  • Motor speed range — with full torque — from 60 to 40,000 rpm;making it possible to accomplish all procedures with only two contra angles
  • 5 digit readout on the display ensuring speed accuracy for lowspeed procedures
  • High/Low RPM buttons for ease of switching between low and highspeed procedures
  • Auto reverse and torque control feature ideally suited for endo procedures

Bien Air’s new line of contra angles provide a speed range from 6 to 200,000 rpm and are now fitted with autoclave resistant mono-bloc glass rods. Designed with dual light outputs, these patented glass rods eliminate shadowing experienced with handpieces equipped with single light output. All contra angles, including slowspeed have triple water spray providing maximum tooth cooling.

Additionally, the OPTIMA PLUS system can be purchased in either internal or external version. Internal version seamlessly integrates into most dental units, while the external version is portable and can be moved from one operatory to another. Both versions utilize compressed air to cool the motor and provide chip air while the motor speed is regulated with the existing foot pedal. Over the years the cost of owning an electric handpieces has reduced significantly. With the addition of unique features to the OPTIMA PLUS system, the costs now can be spread over many procedures that once required a dedicated system. For example, the following cost are typically associated with highspeed, slowspeed, endo, and implant procedures:

  • Highspeeds (3 or 4 per operatory) - $500-$900 street price
Fiber Optic System $300 - $800 street price
  • Slowspeeds $800 - $1200 (including tubing, air motor, and handpiece)
  • Endo System - $1500 - $2000
  • Implant System - $2000 - $6000

With the OPTIMA PLUS all these procedure can be accomplished with one system and two angles. Street price is approximately $1,600 for the system, and $775 to $875 for the angles. Most dentists purchase preset packages tailored to equip one, two or three operatories. Street prices on these packages are:

    Package 1 with 1 system and a combination of 4 attachments — $4,250
    Package 2 with 2 systems and a combination of 6 attachments — $6,650
    Package 3 with 3 systems and a combination of 9 attachments — $9,995

Here is what some of your colleagues are saying about Bien Air:

Richard Pitz, D.M.D., New York, states “These are the handpieces of the future…giving you complete control by combining speed with torque. No longer do we have any herky-jerky wipe and swipe…movement that will astound you. Speed kills; torque controls.”

Dr. Jeffrey Hoos, Connecticut, states “To achieve success in private practice, you need to be using electrics. Bien-Air electrics are the best out there.”

Dr. Bill Dickerson, Las Vegas, NV – “Preparing teeth and finishing restorations with the Bien-Air electric handpieces is an actual pleasure. I also know of no one who has switched to electric that has ever gone back to air. I know I won’t…”
