For the last 10 years, support from companies like Ultradent Products, Inc., has been crucial to Dentaltown's success. In celebrating our 10th anniversary, we also celebrate these companies that have consistently supported us since the beginning. We sat down with Dr. Dan Fischer, president of Ultradent, to discuss the impact Dentaltown has had on Ultradent, as well as the entire dental profession over the last 10 years.
Dr. Fischer, how have things changed at Ultradent since 1999?
What is the corporate culture like today vs. 10 years ago, and how has Dentaltown impacted that (if at all)? What do Dentaltown.com and Dentaltown Magazine mean to Ultradent?
Fischer: Ultradent started as a family business in the 1970s. In looking back at
the last 10 years, something that has been consistent from the time we were founded
until now is that we've had change related to expanding our knowledge base through
invaluable experience, higher education and the hiring of very talented people. It has
been a concerted effort to get the "right people on the bus" and in the "right seats."
Additionally, we've also fine-tuned our vision; or "where we want to go." Our vision
is, "We are passionately driven to improve oral health globally through science, creativity
and education." Embracing the vision and resultant core values has really
helped us in determining who we are and what we want to accomplish.
Another very important subject that has matured in the last 10 years at
Ultradent is embracing the global aspects of our business. This resulted from establishing
satellite offices in several global locations, and more importantly, because
we've listened to the market and discovered the great value that others share with
us from around the world.
Dentaltown has given us an opportunity to absorb feedback from our dental colleagues.
Whether the feedback is regarding our products or other dental issues, it's a
rare opportunity! How often do you get information back from customers about
how you can provide them with a better service? Ultradent has recognized the
value in keeping a finger on the pulse of dentistry, and we're not the only ones.
Other manufacturers, lecturers and even the "lurkers" have benefited from this.
This provides an opportunity to get in the loop sooner to study the issues, make
corrections and/or offer further education for success with the product. Certainly,
this is just one of the ways that connection with Dentaltown has helped strengthen
Ultradent.
We strive to build and support quality relationships with our customers and
this is about more than just sales. We've witnessed this in an exemplary way on
Dentaltown. The community on Dentaltown has grown, bonded and flourished
over a long period of time. The quality sharing that takes place in the community
is not limited to dentistry alone. There are also individuals which mainly observe
("lurkers"), who are still able to stake their claim in the Dentaltown network. The
community has bonded by their common needs, issues and willingness to share
solutions with one another. |

Our vendors, international partners and employees, domestic employees and
their families, have become part of the ongoing Ultradent network. Nothing is
better than sharing and creating a network. No organization or entity emulates,
demonstrates and lives this more than Townies. |
