Cast a Vote That Really Counts

This is how you will waste your time the morning of November 4: You will drive to your local polling place, stand in line for two hours, step into a cramped booth and cast your vote for John McCain. Then as you stroll back to your car, you will notice a guy wearing Birkenstocks and a hemp T-shirt pull his NPR-blasting Hybrid Prius into the space next to you. As soon as that guy gets through the line, your vote is as good as neutralized. For the next half hour, you will sit in your car to wait for a corpulent businessman wearing a Bluetooth headset driving a Hummer to pull into the parking lot just to make sure the odds are again in your candidate's favor.

Do you want the promise of influence without leaving the comfort of your home? Would you like to make a difference and help people change in a way that cannot be accomplished by politicians? I am here to tell you that I don't care if you are democrat, republican, independent or co-dependent — the time has arrived to cast your real vote! In this race, there's no need to stress your little heads about running mates, local elections or red and blue states.

Now is the time to vote in the 2008 Townie Choice Awards! The ballot has been up on Dentaltown.com since July 22, and will be up until August 31. In this contest every vote counts. Do you have a favorite product or company that has made your practice a little better? Cast your vote and let the community know how much you love their products.

Every dentist who is a member on Dentaltown.com is already registered to vote. If you have not visited our Web site, take a moment to complete the free registration and participate in this annual event. Every member who votes receives a merit badge. When you see this merit badge under a member's profile online, it means that member has taken the time to give back to the community.

If you are new to the Townie Choice Awards, the concept is simple. It is the People's Choice Awards of dental products and services. There are many awards and accolades in our profession but this is the most comprehensive reflection of the collective voice of practicing dentists. Manufacturers and service providers are invited to enter their products on our ballot and every question has the space for a write-in if your favorite product is not listed. Please know that each year we review this list of write-in's to improve our ballot for the following year. Your feedback is appreciated. Our community grows each year because dentists love to help other people. Each day you spend time taking care of your patients and your online activity contributes to the welfare of your colleagues. Dentistry is a terrific profession and the Townie Choice Awards gives you the opportunity to have your voice heard.

The final results will appear in our December issue and all of the results are permanently archived on our Web site. Thank you in advance for taking the time to vote and please share your feedback at the end of the ballot.
