All curing light output has spectral, intensity, and consistency characteristics. The light must have a sufficiently broad spectrum to cure all available resin materials. The light must be of sufficient intensity to cure rapidly, and the light output must be consistent, so the dentist can be sure that a full cure is always achieved. When Air Techniques designed the ARC Light IIM, the goal was to provide dentists the best available technology with the lowest cost of ownership. There are four general categories of curing lights classified by their illuminative sources: light-emitting diode (LED), laser, halogen, and xenon arc. Of all these categories, Air Techniques decided the intensity of the xenon arc lamp would be ideal for ultra-fast curing.
The ARC Light IIM generates a constant light output of 2000 mw/cm2. In comparison, a review of all halogen light specifications reveals substantially lower output. Some companies sell "fast halogen" lights. While these products do have higher intensity than traditional halogen lights, the gain is often obtained by increasing voltage, which reduces bulb life. Some companies also offer "turbo tips" that focus the available light onto a smaller area. However, they cannot add light intensity that was never generated in the first place. Halogen curing lights have a lower initial price than xenon arc curing lights, but it can often take more time for material to cure. A xenon arc curing light requires less time to perform a cure than many other categories of light.
Independent studies confirm that users of the ARC Light IIM can cure 90% faster than traditional halogen lights and in 30% less time than fast halogen lights. Placing an average national value on the dentist's time, one study showed that this 30% difference translated into an equivalent of $10,000 per year.
Air Techniques engineered the ARC Light IIM with the widest range of factory-set and user-programmable modes to ensure compatibility with any curing protocol. Cure Mode, Bleach Mode, Custom Program Ramp Mode, and Custom Program Step Mode can all be selected with continuous or modulated light output. Light intensity, time, and energy profiles are all fully adjustable. The Light Modulation function reduces heat transfer without extending curing time. A built-in radiometer allows calibration to factory-output settings and will automatically adjust the profile to compensate for field changes, so thorough, consistent cure is assured.
Lowest cost of ownership, time savings, broad-spectrum curing, programming versatility, and manufacturer commitment are all part of the ARC Light IIM package.
TIME is of the essence...
Studies have shown a 30% difference in curing time–based on an average national value–can translate into an equivalent of $10,000 in additional revenue per year.
