The Arizona Dental Association (AzDA) is pleased to announce that Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon will present its “Dentist of the Year” and other awards at a luncheon on Friday, March 9, at the Hyatt Regency Phoenix.
According to Rick Murray, Executive Director of AzDA: “Mayor Gordon has become a very good friend to our association and its members, especially after he visited our Give Kids A Smile charitable day of dentistry at the Phoenix Boys and Girls Club last November and experienced firsthand the enormous altruistic contribution dentists make to Arizona’s children and their families.”
Mayor Gordon will be presenting “Dentist of the Year” to two AzDA members, Gregory Pafford, DDS (Phoenix) and Douglas McMaster, DDS (Tucson), in recognition of their “unwavering integrity, leadership and passion for making a difference.” Dr. Pafford is Chairman of Give Kids A Smile Day in Phoenix and Dr. McMaster has Chaired the AzDA Council on Dental Education for the past two years. Additionally, Mayor Gordon will present the “AzDA Hall of Fame Service Award” to five member dentists in recognition of their “lifelong achievements and enduring contributions to the profession of dentistry.” They are Thomas J. Bahr, DDS (Phoenix); Burton E. Becker, DDS (Tucson); William Becker, DDS (Tucson); Roy G. Daniels, DDS (Sedona) and Robert H. Foster, DDS (Phoenix).
The AzDA Awards program takes place during its Western Regional Dental Convention (March 8-10, 2007 at Phoenix Convention Center) where approximately 7,000 dental professionals from Arizona and across the U.S. and Canada will choose from approximately 100 lectures and hands-on workshops taught by the industry’s most notable educators on topics ranging from clinical dentistry (general and specialty), business management, ergonomics and dental office design, technological applications, CPR, infection control, nutrition and lifestyle, sleep apnea, patient care, financial planning, substance abuse and much more. The luncheon, co-sponsored by the Arizona Dental Laboratory Association, will also feature a performance by Mallet Masters, a 5th Grade instrument ensemble from Kyrene de las Brisas Elementary School in Chandler, AZ and a presentation by acclaimed artist and motivational speaker Erik Wahl.
The convention will conclude Saturday, March 10 when the AzDA House of Delegates convenes to discuss and vote on important issues and hear presentations from dignitaries representing the American Dental Association and other national groups.
