Dr. Meaghan Strotman Provides Special Patient Care, Teaches Restorative Dentistry at University of Illinois at ChicagoCollege of Dentistry
Juggling several roles is nothing new at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry, and even recent hires are expected to wear several hats. A 2004 graduate of the College’s DDS program, Dr.Meaghan D. Strotman has been back at UIC only since July, but already is handling more than one role.
“Three days a week I am one of three dentists working in the Special Patient Care Clinic providing both comprehensive and emergency treatment to patients,” Dr. Strotman explained. “One day a week I am an Assistant Clinical Professor, and this fall I was part of the Complete Denture Prosthodontics course. I helped the students work through the process of fabricating complete dentures in a clinical setting on real patients.
“In terms of my clinical practice, I hope to provide quality, compassionate care to an underserved population. In terms of my teaching, I hope to share some of my experiences with the students, and to help them realize that the practice of dentistry is a lifelong learning experience that can be a lot of fun,” she noted.
Before joining the College’s faculty, Dr. Strotman was Chief Resident for the Advocate Illinois Masonic General Practice Residency in Chicago. She provided Special Patient Care to developmentally disabled individuals, and worked on Advocate’s Dental Van, which travels to different communities to provide comprehensive care to underserved populations.
After earning her BS in biology with a minor in business administration at St. Mary’s College, Notre Dame, IN, in 1997, Dr. Strotman worked as an Account Manager for LabSource, as a Computer Analyst for Andersen Consulting, and as a Dental Assistant for Pediatric Dental Health Associates, all in Chicago.
She and her husband, Darren, are expecting their first child shortly. “In my spare time I like to hang out with my husband and our friends, cook, read, and play with my dog,” Dr. Strotman concluded.
Dr. Strotman is a resident of the NorthCenter community of Chicago.
