Four Foreign Nationals Detained at Upscale Malaysian Dental Clinic, and Officials Think a Fifth Got Away

When health and immigration officers raided a luxury dental clinic in Subang Jaya, Malaysia, they found a patient’s X-rays on a computer, dental equipment brought in from overseas, and a man’s bag sitting in a treatment room. Authorities believe the bag’s owner, a foreign man suspected of performing unlicensed dental procedures, slipped out during the operation.

Four foreign nationals were detained for allegedly providing dental treatment without proper authorization, according to Media Selangor, the Selangor state government’s official news agency. The New Straits Times also reported the detentions. The joint operation involved the Selangor Health Department’s dental health division, the Health Ministry’s Oral Health Programme, and the Immigration Department.

Officials said the raid followed intelligence about suspicious dental services at the clinic, which was reportedly popular with high-income customers.

The clinic itself was legally registered as a private dental clinic. It even had a qualified local dentist on staff, who was treating patients in a separate room when officers arrived, according to a Health Ministry spokesperson.

Officers questioned two foreign women in their 20s. One said she was only a health consultant who advised customers and prepared treatment plans for procedures such as implants and dentures. Officers then found a patient’s dental X-rays on a computer at the clinic.

The woman said she held medical qualifications from her home country but couldn’t give a satisfactory explanation for the images or her role at the clinic, according to Media Selangor. She also told officers she was in Malaysia as a tourist but couldn’t explain her connection to the practice. The New Straits Times reported that the group presented themselves as tourists.

A further search of the premises turned up medicines and dental equipment brought in from overseas, officials said.

The reports do not name the clinic, identify the detainees’ nationalities, or specify which procedures were allegedly performed. None of the coverage reviewed indicated that charges had been filed.
