Continuing Resolution Holds Federal Oral Health Funding Level Through Dec. 11

Edited by Dentaltown staff

President Donald Trump signed a short-term government funding measure Sept. 2 that holds federal agencies at fiscal 2026 levels through Dec. 11, preserving current funding for oral health, dental research, and dental workforce programs.

The House passed the Senate-amended version of H.R. 6500, the Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act, 2027, on Sept. 1 by a vote of 370-48. The Senate had approved the measure in August by 90-6.

According to the American Dental Association’s analysis of the enacted law, the resolution maintains $21 million for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Oral Health Program, $43 million for Health Resources and Services Administration Oral Health Workforce programs, $525 million for the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, $12 million for Department of Defense military dental research, and $260 million for the Indian Health Service Dental Program.

The association said the measure also continues support for HRSA Ryan White dental services, HRSA medical-dental integration, and Department of Veterans Affairs dental efforts.

The resolution additionally blocks the Office of Management and Budget through Dec. 11 from moving ahead with a proposed rule that would change how federal grants are reviewed and administered for states, research institutions, nonprofits, and other recipients of federal financial assistance.

Congress acted well ahead of the Sept. 30 deadline, moving the next funding decision past the November midterm elections. Lawmakers will need to pass full-year appropriations or another continuing resolution by Dec. 11 to avoid a lapse.
