Why I Made the Switch: Primescan 2

by Dr. Dana Hardy

I eventually hit a point in my practice where I knew it was time to really dive into digital dentistry—especially bringing chairside options like CEREC into the mix. That search led me to the Primescan 2 intraoral scanner, and looking back, the transition was remarkably seamless.

From Day 1, the scanner was intuitive and easy for the entire team to adopt. As a cordless scanner, its portability has had a significant impact on how we work. We can scan from any room and send data to any device or computer through the cloud. That flexibility alone has transformed our workflow.

The biggest impact, however, has been on our patients. With CEREC, we can now manufacture high-quality restorations in-house, improving turnaround times and overall patient satisfaction. Digital scanning also gives me complete control over margins, which has significantly elevated the quality of the restorations we deliver.

Perhaps most importantly, Primescan 2 has changed how I plan treatments. I now more often choose inlays and onlays, allowing me to preserve more natural tooth structure than before.

For anyone still on the fence, here’s what I’ve learned: Going digital isn’t really optional anymore. It’s just how modern dentistry works now. What made the decision easier for me was realizing that with Primescan 2, I wasn’t just upgrading a scanner—I was opening the door to new ways to grow my practice.
