Forward Science received FDA clearance for Orapeutic, a non-opioid oral pain relief gel, in December 2019. The dressing, which was released at Chicago Midwinter, manages the pain of oral wounds, mouth sores, injuries and ulcers of the oral mucosa. Orapeutic adheres to oral tissue, forming a protective barrier between the wound and further irritation or contamination. The product’s gel matrix maintains a moist wound environment and prevents initiation of pain signals.

Cerec Primemill, Dentsply Sirona’s new grinding and milling machine, produces restorations with precise margins and smooth surfaces using high-speed double-spindle strategies. The machine features a 7-inch touch interface, an integrated camera for scanning blocks with compatible data matrix code and an RFID scanner for reading tool information. It also works with a wide range of materials. The new design offers significantly smoother operation.

The large interface guides users through all workflow processes. Workflow steps are displayed in order and show, for example, which tools are used for the selected material and machining option; tools are outfitted with color codes based on the material to be processed. Each tool also contains a small radiofrequency identification tag that can be read by an integrated scanner, which informs users about the tool’s status and if or when it should be replaced with a new one.

The disc features unique shell geometry, a data-based three-dimensional tooth and dental arch structure suitable for the rapid digital fabrication of removable upper and lower dentures. Shell geometry defines the transition between the tooth and the denture base sections of the disc. Integrated exclusively into 3Shape Dental System 2020 CAD software, the digital denture system allows patient-specific customization with the Ivotion tooth library and the coordinated shell geometry.

The Ivotion disc is expected to be available in May. All other exclusive digital denture workflows, such as Ivoclar Vivadent’s oversize milling process, will be integrated into the 3Shape Dental System 2020, starting with the release planned for May.
