Dr Kerri-Lee Clark
Dr Kerri-Lee Clark shares her thoughts on the BACD Recommended Meeting she attended in Edinburgh:
‘I love attending any events associated with the BACD, but I was particularly keen to join this Recommended Meeting, which was delivered by Dr Andrew Chandrapal. At the time, he was the president of the academy and had a great reputation in regard to his composite masterclass courses. I thoroughly enjoyed his session and learned a lot.
‘In the past, BACD Recommended Meetings were often short sessions held on weekday evenings. I feel that the full-day sessions benefit dentists, because you aren’t tired after a long day working and can therefore maximise your learning over an extended session.
‘The Recommended Meeting I attended was well structured, with presentations delivered in the first half of the day and live demonstrations in the second half to consolidate the learning objectives. I was very impressed with the speakers, who were very engaging and knowledgeable.
‘I always try to implement specific techniques into my daily practice following these lectures, to expand my expertise and improve my efficiency. For example, I now routinely measure the maximal depth of the central fossa prior to full filling removal, to aid composite depth placement and prevent overpolishing the final restoration. This enables me to maintain the occlusal anatomy and overall dental aesthetics.
‘I would highly recommend that other dentists join the BACD, as there are many benefits to membership, including discounted rates at the Academy’s educational and social events. At the very least, I’d advise dentists to attend Recommended Meetings so as to keep up-to-date on cosmetic dental advances.”
‘The industry experts demonstrate step-by-step methods to ensure practitioners excel. I feel that these individuals genuinely want delegates to be as good as they are. In doing so, the academy strives to promote the highest-quality cosmetic dentistry and help delegates to advance their capabilities and career.
