Product Profile: Itero Element 5D

Align Technology to showcase 5D imaging system for 1st time in the UK at the BDA Dentistry Show in Birmingham in May

Align Technology’s iTero Element 5D Imaging System provides a new, even more comprehensive approach to clinical applications, workflows and user experience, which expands the suite of existing high-precision, full-colour imaging and fast scan times of the iTero Element portfolio.

Dr Elaine Halley DentaltownUK advisory board member Dr Elaine Halley, who was involved in piloting the new iTero Element 5D Imaging System, will present it during the BDA Dentistry Show in Birmingham.

The new 5D imaging system will be showcased for the first time in the UK on Stand H30 (Align Technology) at the BDA Dentistry Show at the NEC in Birmingham, 17th–18th May, including expert demonstrations by Dr Elaine Halley, who was involved with piloting the system.

The iTero Element 5D scanner is the first integrated dental imaging system that simultaneously records 3D, intraoral colour and near-infrared imaging (NIRI) images, and enables comparison over time using iTero’s TimeLapse functionality. These can aid in the detection and monitoring of interproximal caries lesions above the gingiva without using harmful radiation.1

With one full-arch scan in as little as 60 seconds, the system provides doctors with powerful visualisation capabilities, including:

  • 3D impressions for restorative and orthodontic work.
  • Analysis instruments, such as an occlusal clearance tool.
  • NIRI imagery.
  • Intraoral camera imagery.
  • iTero TimeLapse technology.
  • Invisalign Outcome Simulator and Invisalign Progress Assessment.

‘The iTero Element 5D Imaging System combines the technology of the iTero Element portfolio of scanners with advanced integrated imaging features such as NIRI’, said Zelko Relic, CTO and senior vice president of global research and development at Align Technology. ‘With this new system, doctors can efficiently and effectively scan every patient at every visit and visualise treatment options together that result in more informed decisions for optimum oral care.’

‘Diagnosing carious lesions or “cavities”— especially ones that are interproximal or between teeth—can be hampered by numerous factors, including variations in tooth shape and alignment, traditional X-ray film limitations that include variability in exposure levels, poor angulations in image capture and overlapping contacts in the image’, said Dr. Mitra Derakhshan, vice president of global clinical at Align Technology.

‘The iTero Element 5D Imaging System aids doctors in detecting and monitoring the progression of interproximal cavities above the gingiva without harmful radiation, helping to ensure that patients receive even better care.’

‘The pace of innovation at Align continues to accelerate, and the Element 5D Imaging System expands the iTero portfolio by offering dental professionals a range of powerful scanning technology at every price point’, said Yuval Shaked, senior vice president and managing director of iTero Scanners and Services for Align Technology. ‘Dental professionals now have the ability to invest in more than an intraoral scanner, thus maximising opportunities within their dental practice. The platform nature of iTero Element 5D system makes it easy for dental professionals to upgrade to the latest digital technology when they are ready.’

MyiTero.com: New web-based interface frees the scanner for scanning

MyiTero.com Align Technology now also offers web-based platform MyiTero.com, which complements the comprehensive visualisation of the iTero Element 5D system. MyiTero.com can be used to set up prescription before the appointment and to review scans with the patient on multiple devices, giving the practice the flexibility to assist more patients with this technology.

The site frees up the scanner so the practice can maximize utilisation of the scanner and the overall investment in the technology.

Direct doctor-lab workflow in limited release: Workflow options that fit doctor/lab needs

Align Technology is continuing to streamline workflows for dentists and labs with the addition of direct doctor/lab workflow, which allows scans to be automatically sent to the doctor’s lab of choice. Dentists can engage with the lab through MyiTero.com to determine if the scan is acceptable or if additional information is needed.

This workflow will be supported with on-demand services like iTero modeling and iTero custom milled models.

Direct doctor-lab workflow is currently in limited market testing in North America and Europe.
