Dr Andrew Wallace Reports on the Dentinal Tubules Congress 2018

Dentaltown Magazine

The first day of the Dentinal Tubules Congress 2018 began with an introduction by Dr?Dhru Shah and some statistics on reach into the dental profession. Next came the hands-on sessions, the main focus of the day. The speakers in each group were all world-class educators sharing their knowledge and passion for dentistry.

The last session of the evening was a talk on implant planning by professor Shakeel Shahdad. This talk challenged some of the dogmas we hold on primary stability and was exquisitely documented with photography and also a 3D?video on implant surgery on the big screen.

Highlights of the second day included Dr Basil Mizrahi explaining why precise preparation, provisionalisation and soft tissue management lead to the exceptional accuracy needed in impression making clearly required in the management of complex cases. Dr Maxim Belograd from the Ukraine demonstrated his amazing visuals and guidance on complex aesthetic cases. Dr Jurgita Sybaite opened attendees’ eyes to their inner artists by using drawings to involve the audience in the three-dimensional morphology of a single central incisor. This was a most innovative and unusual presentation that wowed everyone.

The afternoon had a trifecta of great presentations on the good, the bad and the unknown in occlusion, delivered by Drs Riaz Syed, Mahul Patel and Kushal Ghadia.

The Friday night ‘Black and Red’-themed party was, as ever, one of the highlights, featuring great food, and dentists young and old dancing late into the evening.

A Rewarding Presidency

Dr Donal Sloss

Dr Donald Sloss shares his thoughts on stepping down as this year’s BACD president:

‘It has been one of the most influential and enjoyable roles I have undertaken, and one with many rewards,’ says Sloss. ‘Since I joined the BACD many years ago, I’ve been able to develop a fantastic career in dentistry through the networking and continuing educational programmes it provides.

‘Because I’ve gained so much from being a member of the BACD, I’m keen to remain active and will continue contributing to the Academy in as many ways as I can. I highly recommend dentists at any stage of their career to join the BACD and explore the ways that they can progress through its membership and Accreditation Programme.’
