ACA’s Impact on General Dentistry

by Howard Farran, DDS, MBA, Publisher, Dentaltown Magazine
Like it or not, in 2014 major parts of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), aka “Obamacare,” are going into effect and it is impacting dentistry. But how?

This is not a political rant, but the way the ACA is going to affect dentists and our sacred and sovereign profession is a big deal. I don’t pretend to be an expert on this subject, in fact there are zero experts on Obamacare because it is so new to all of us. Because we all need to know how we’re going to be impacted, I started a conversation on the Dentaltown.com message boards where we can all start to figure out some of the answers together [Editor’s Note: The thread on Dentaltown.com is titled, “This thread is for a non-political discussion on the Affordable Healthcare Act, ‘Obamacare’ and what we should expect when 3 million more children are to gain dental benefits” – if you want to view/comment on it, please visit www.dentaltown.com/ACAThread.]

In this column, I’m presenting several excerpts from this conversation. Again, it’s not about politics or what should have, would have or could have been done. It’s about the ACA itself and all of the details every dental professional should know and will be impacted by.

Gang – this is going to be huge and it will impact all of us. I implore every single one of you to check out this thread. Visit: www.dentaltown.com/ACAThread today and join in the conversation.
