Staff Salaries as Percentage of Collections
My question is concerning staff salaries as a percentage of collections. In one of Sally McKenzie's posts concerning assistants, she says that salaries should be between 19-22%. In Huntsville you said that you thought they should be 22-27%. Roger Levin states that it should not be above 25%. You need to have an explanation. I want my staff well paid but I do not wish to be at the 25%. That ends up making paying bills/vacations not fun. Our monthly goal is figured (based) on salary. Office monthly salary divided by 22% equals the monthly collection goal. Or another way, what would our monthly collections need to be (x), for our salaries to be 22%? Anything collected above that goal is figured for a bonus.

Greetings Lester,
Regarding staff compensation, a lot of it depends on how you do the math. I see some consultants say that labor should be 20 to 22% and then later in the same article have another category for payroll taxes, FICA matching, bonuses, 401K, healthcare, etc.… Also, many consultants do not believe in 401K's or health insurance. I do believe in 401K's and health insurance for employees. When I say the range is between 22 to 27% I mean every cost associated with the employee: uniforms, 401K, profit sharing, health insurance, etc. It really depends on your own personal philosophy. There is no RIGHT or WRONG answer. I just looked up my number for the year and it is 25.23%.

Mandibular Implant Overdenture System
I am looking for information in regards to the overdenture that Dr. Farran spoke about during his lecture to our society. As I recall it is some type of mandibular implant denture that is associated with the anterior portion of the mandibular.
–Peter J. Pirmann, DMD
Greetings Peter,
The mandibular implant overdenture system I was talking about is IMTEC. You can learn a lot by visiting their website at www.imtec.com. I believe you were at the seminar for the Oklahoma State Dental Association. IMTEC is in Ardmore, OK. You can contact James Clark the CEO of IMTEC at 580-223-4456 or james@imtec.com.

I do know that there is a ton of information on IMTEC implants and overdentures on the message boards at www.DentalTown.com. Have you done a search for IMTEC on the message boards? You can post a new question under the "Implant" section which has a special thread devoted to "IMTEC." 25.23%.
