Synopsis:

Root canal filling has traditionally required a core material and a sealer. The core has been packed into the canal with either a lateral or warm vertical technique in order to create a sealer layer as thin as possible since the sealers usually shrink on setting and are insoluble in tissue fluids. Both techniques require space that removes too much coronal dentin leaving the root susceptible to failure.

A new bioceramic sealer now is available that expands slightly on setting and is stable in tissue fluids over time. Because of these properties the core material does not have to be packed maximally into the canal and in fact the gutta-percha point is used as a hydraulic pump (only) and pathway for post space or retreatment. This CE course will discuss and describe the cold hydraulic technique with bioceramics.

Description of Speaker:

After graduating as an endodontist, he continued at the University of Pennsylvania as a faculty member until 1989 when he became Chair of Endodontology at Temple University, School of Dentistry. In 1993, he accepted the JB Freedland Professorship in the Department of Endodontics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, School of Dentistry.
