Synopsis:
It is indisputable that maintaining a vital healthy pulp is the best way to prevent apical periodontitis. However the treatment protocols available for vital pulp therapy are extremely limited and at present the recommendation as best treatment for a carious exposure is a full pulpectomy. New materials and knowledge give some hope to expanding the role of vital pulp therapy to include cases where we previously thought it to be impossible.
The lecture will discuss the biological indications for indirect pulp capping, direct pulp capping, pulpotomy and pulp regeneration.
