Synopsis:
As an instructor and lecturer to colleagues in the
dental field, especially those interested in implantology,
my perspective has been that of a general dentist who
understands the struggle of working 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
five or six days per week and having to go out of your
way to gain extra training and knowledge for specialty
procedures. I now have the luxury of being a practicing
general dentist of 15 years who also happens to be
completing his first year of a graduate periodontics
residency. My current experiences have inspired what
I explore in this article.
Description of Speaker:
Dr. LeRoy Horton earned a bachelor’s degree in
biology from Pacific Lutheran University in 2003 and
attained his DDS from the University of Washington
School of Dentistry in 2007. Having always been
fascinated with dental implants, Horton pursued
advanced training over the years, attaining
fellowships and completing master’s courses,
and eventually earned his board certification as
a diplomate of the International Congress of Oral Implantology. He is a
graduate periodontics resident at Oregon Health Sciences University and is
a nationally recognized AGD instructor.
Educational Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to achieve the following:
The importance of risk assessment. The relationship of periodontitis to peri-implant disease. The relationship between oral hygiene and maintenance-visit compliance and peri-implant disease.
