Boston -- MA -- August 13, 2014 -- On September 4-5, clinical industry leaders will gather in Boston to discuss promoting patient empowerment in clinical research, leveraging innovation, and collaboration.

The conference will open with a keynote by Ken Getz, Director of Sponsored Research at Tufts CSDD, and is co-chaired by Christine Pierre, President of the Society for Clinical Research Sites (SCRS) and Andreas Koester, Vice President of Innovation and External Alliances at Janssen, Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson.

In the pharmaceutical industry, 2014 is shaping up to be the year of ‘putting the patients at the heart’ of drug development.  Against that backdrop, eyeforpharma conducted a research project with leading drug sponsors to discover optimal implementation methods of a patient-centric approach for clinical trials. The initiative culminates in an executive conference on September 4-5-, 2014, held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Downtown Boston.

“We are thrilled to have over 100 of the smartest minds in the clinical trials space in one room, all focusing on this important question. The extraordinary buy-in from the pharma industry shows that a shift in thinking is underway: Patient centricity can no longer just be viewed as an opportunity for commercial pharma” says Ulrich Neumann, Director of eyeforpharma and Head of the Patient-Centered Trial Initiative. “Senior executives believe that for reduced development costs, and faster and more effective trials, a new model is needed.”

“SCRS is thrilled to join eyeforpharma in this exciting event to raise aware of the importance of a more patient-centric approach to clinical trials. There is a great need among all stakeholders to absorb implementation methods designed to ensure the patient remains at the center of clinical trials.” affirms SCRS President, and co-chair Christine Pierre.

The event includes a combination of case studies, panel sessions, debates and one-on-one networking with patient groups and site representatives. Members of the renowned Speaking Faculty have committed to offering actionable insights into integrating patient views and values in new ways in drug development, leveraging technology, and strategic process innovations.
