Academy of General Dentistry Hosts Free Oral Cancer Screenings

Posted: May 12, 2014
Oral cancer is the sixth most common cancer, accounting for nearly 5 percent of all cases. More than 43,000 Americans will be diagnosed with oral or pharyngeal cancer this year, resulting in more than 8,000 deaths—that’s one person every hour.

General dentists often can detect the disease in its early stages, which makes the dental community the first line of defense against oral cancer.

To raise awareness of this deadly disease and promote active screening of dental patients, the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) Foundation will host free oral cancer screenings during the AGD 2014 Annual Meeting & Exhibits in Detroit. Open to annual meeting attendees and the public, screenings will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. on Friday, June 27, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 28, at the Cobo Center on the Concourse Level (Washington Boulevard).

Don’t be silent when it comes to oral cancer. Get screened at the AGD 2014 Annual Meeting & Exhibits and set an example for others.

For more information, visit the annual meeting website, email foundation@agd.org, or call 888.AGD.DENT (888.243.3368).
