New Charting System Seeks to Revolutionize Malpractice Prevention for General Dentists

Ideal charting for general dentists aims to prevent possible dental malpractice lawsuits before they start
Posted: April 9, 2014
The Dental Advocate, a newly created dental charting company, announced today the launch of the Ideal Charting for General Dentists (ICGD) system, the most sophisticated charting system in the US. The ICGD succeeds where today’s charting systems fall short by providing a subscription charting system that is updated and optimized as dental malpractice evolves. The ICGD helps protect dentists when a legal action comes their way with cutting-edge charting templates and progress notes that are updated without any additional effort on the dental practitioners’ part.

On average, American dentists will face three to five lawsuits or other legal actions over the course of their careers. When the inevitable occurs, dentists rely on their progress notes and consent forms as the first line of defense, but often encounter trouble because the software company’s templates simply aren’t thorough enough. Because the technology improves along with the case law, The Dental Advocate’s ICGD system can help prevent potential legal problems for dentists before they start.

“I’ve found too many times over the years that the chart fails the dentist, not the other way around,” noted Jeff Tonner, co-founder of The Dental Advocate and one of the only attorneys in the country to devote a full-time law practice to advocating for dentists. “As a juror told me once after the verdict, ‘If it's in the charts it happened. If it’s not, it didn’t.’”
