American Academy of Periodontology Director Gains National Recognition

Director Erin O’Donnell Dotzler named “Forty Under 40” association executive

Chicago (September 18, 2013) – Erin O’Donnell Dotzler, MPP, Director of Public, Practice and Scientific Affairs at the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP), was named one of the “Forty Under 40” association executives by Association Forum of Chicagoland and USAE, the weekly newspaper of associations. 

“Erin is most deserving of this award,” said John Forbes, Executive Director of the AAP. “She is a valued member of the AAP’s executive leadership team and provides keen insight into the operational and strategic direction of our organization. I am thrilled to have her on my staff.”

Since 2006, O’Donnell Dotzler has overseen the AAP’s public and professional relations activities, as well as efforts to support members in clinical periodontal practice. She also executes the scientific agenda of the AAP and serves as a primary liaison to the AAP’s medical, dental and corporate partners. O’Donnell Dotzler’s leadership has resulted in the AAP becoming a global leader in advancing the science and practice of periodontics, as well as a trusted source of periodontal health information and resources for both the healthcare and layperson communities.

Prior to her tenure at the AAP, O’Donnell Dotzler served as an associate in healthcare consulting at PricewaterhouseCoopers. She was also the Chief Operating Officer for the Health Care Compliance Association where she oversaw and managed operations and staff while working with the Board of Directors on strategic issues and corporate sponsorship. 

O’Donnell Dotzler received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Asian Studies from St. Olaf College. In 2006, she earned her Masters of Public Policy from Harvard University Kennedy School of Government. O’Donnell Dotzler is the recipient of a 2010 Silver Trumpet Award from the Publicity Club of Chicago for her achieve­ment in pub­lic rela­tions and com­mu­ni­ca­tions. O’Donnell Dotzler resides in Chicago with her husband and two children.
