Crest Oral-B Unveils Short Films at 2013 American Dental Hygienists’ Association Annual Session

Impact of the Profession is Highlighted in Videos

CINCINNATI--()--Crest Oral-B is pleased to continue the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the profession of dental hygiene by releasing two short films during their breakfast at the American Dental Hygienists’ Association’s (ADHA) 90th Annual Session. Each film captures the true commitment hygienists have to their patients’ lives and showcases their contributions beyond the dental chair.

The films highlight Mariann Danielson, RDH, from Austin, TX, and Vinny Wong, RDH, from New York, NY, as examples of hygienists who have drastically altered the lives of their patients through their dedication to the oral health cause. Through constant support and repeated dental visits, Danielson helped her 15 year-old patient slowly overcome his sensory integration disorder and conquer his fear of the dental chair and instruments. Wong discovered that his patient had ankyloglossia — was tongue tied — during a routine oral cancer scan and suggested corrective surgery. Their stories are just two examples of the true nature of the profession, which contradicts any notion that hygienists are simply teeth cleaners.“Crest Oral-B continues to thank hygienists for their unwavering hard work and dedication to the field,” said Dr. Veronica Sanchez, Global Oral Care Scientific Communications Director, Procter and Gamble. “With these short films, we hope to expose the endless ways hygienists can affect their patients’ lives and bring deeper insight into the true nature of the profession.”

“I think the biggest stereotype for dental hygienists is that we’re ‘teeth pickers,’” explained Danielson in the short film. “There’s a lot more to it than just buff and puff. We’re educated. We’re state licensed. We’re national licensed, and we’re the nurses of the dental profession,” Wong in his short film added, “Yes, I’m going to clean your teeth, but I’m going to educate you along the way; and also, I’m going to give you all the knowledge, and all the power for you to take care of yourself at home.”

These two short films are part of Crest Oral-B’s ongoing show of gratitude towards hygienists for all they have brought to the oral care industry over the past 100 years.
