PHOENIX, AZ (September 11, 2012)—After deliberating over thorough testimony from both sides, Phoenix City Council (Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee) elected to affirm the current policy to add fluoride to Phoenix water.

Councilwoman Thelda Williams, Chair; Vice-Mayor Michael Johnson; and Councilman Daniel Valenzuela voted affirm the current policy to add fluoride to Phoenix water. Councilman Jim Waring abstained from voting. Councilwoman Williams cited that the benefits of adding fluoride to Phoenix water outweighed any perceived drawbacks. She indicated that she felt that “public health was the responsibility of the government.”
