Posted: May 21, 2012

May 18, 2012 (ALGONQUIN, IL) — A new CE course titled, “An Evidence-Based Approach to Cleansing and Polishing: Part I” has recently been published by The Richmond Institute on its website for continuing dental education. The course was written by Michele Darby, RDH, MS—an industry-leading clinician and author who has made considerable contributions to the practice of dental hygiene, such as publishing three highly-recognized textbooks, Comprehensive Review of Dental Hygiene, Research Methods for Oral Health Professionals (co-authored by Denise Bowen, RDH, MS) and Dental Hygiene Theory and Practice (co-edited by Margaret Walsh , RDH, MS, EdD).

The course reflects her expertise on the subject with a complete and in-depth overview of contemporary cleansing and polishing, emphasizing the need for evidence-based decisions to[MK3]  treat a variety of diverse patient needs. The course highlights several emerging terminologies that are currently being used to specify different techniques with cleansing and polishing, and reviews the top products and materials that are currently recommended in this rapidly-growing market. The second part of the course is scheduled to follow up with a more thorough review of the positives and negatives behind each technique, as well as the methods currently being used to implement polishing on different restorative surfaces.

To view part one of this course free of charge, please visit The Richmond Institute website, and/or sign up for a complimentary membership to take the exam for CE credit.
