Arizona Dental Association's 2012 Elections and Awards

PHOENIX, AZ (April 6, 2012) – Dr. Gary O. Jones of Mesa, who has practiced in Central Arizona for over 20 years, has been named the 104th president of the Arizona Dental Association (AzDA). 

Dr. Jones maintains a private practice in General Dentistry in Mesa, Arizona. Born in Logan, Utah, Dr. Jones was educated at Brigham Young University and Arizona State University prior to earning his dental degree from Northwestern University Dental School in 1985 (following the footsteps of his father, the late Owen J. Jones, DDS who earned his degree in 1958 from Northwestern). An AzDA member since 1986, his service to organized dentistry includes participation in several councils and task forces. He has volunteered his time and talents at Special Olympics, PBS' "Ask a Dentist" Call in Program, Mesa Public School Kindergarten Screening. He has also volunteered at Give Kids a Smile (free dental care for children) for the past seven years.   
 
When asked what he likes most about his career, Dr. Jones says, “The social aspect of working with others and serving their needs.” When he’s not working, Dr. Jones is an avid Phoenix Suns fan and enjoys flying, riding quads in the sand, travel and quality time with Alison (wife), their children and the family dog.

Dr. Lisa Lear of Tucson was elected Vice-President of the Arizona Dental Association. Dr. Lear received her dental degree from Indiana University in 1987. She served as the Arizona Dental Association’s Speaker of the House over the last three years. 
 
At its annual meeting at the Phoenix Convention Center, the Arizona Dental Association was to present the following awards:

AzDA Service Award: recognizes members for their lifelong achievements and enduring contributions to the profession of dentistry. This year’s recipient is Todd Hellwig, DMD of Scottsdale.
 
President’s Award: recognizes an individual for support, commitment, and contribution to the President of the Arizona Dental Association. This year’s recipient is Rob Roda, DDS of Scottsdale. 
 
AzDA Dentist of the Year: recipient chosen based on her/his outstanding contributions to the profession of dentistry in Arizona. This year’s recipient is Regina Cobb, DDS of Kingman.
