New Adhesive Offers Simple Procedure and Ensures Virtually No Post-Operative Sensitivity

ST. PAUL, Minn. – (Oct. 1, 2011) – 3M ESPE is helping to dramatically simplify the adhesive process with the introduction of Scotchbond™ Universal Adhesive, a single-bottle adhesive with a forgiving technique that offers versatile solutions for direct and indirect restorations. Until now, dentists have had to juggle adhesive systems and sort through multiple bottles to select the right product for the indication, and be cautious with technique to prevent problems like post-operative sensitivity. With Scotchbond Universal adhesive, dentists now have an easy-to-use, single-bottle solution that provides uncompromising results for all surfaces in total- or self-etch mode.
“Research shows ease of use, post-operative sensitivity concerns and versatility across surfaces are some of dentists’ top reasons for using multiple adhesive brands,” said Dan Krueger, scientific affairs manager, 3M ESPE. “We developed Scotchbond Universal adhesive so dentists can streamline their adhesive supply with one simple product that addresses their most important needs.”
Scotchbond Universal adhesive offers a unique combination of total- and self-etch properties, with consistent and reliable performance in all adhesive techniques. Whether used for a direct or indirect procedure, or on dentin or enamel, Scotchbond Universal adhesive provides uncompromising performance and bond strength.
“This first-of-its-kind adhesive bonds to all surfaces without an additional primer,” said Krueger. “Additionally, the incorporation of our proprietary Vitrebond™ Copolymer into the product enhances its technique-tolerance and ease of use.”
To use the product, dentists simply apply the adhesive to the tooth and scrub for 20 seconds, air dry the area for five seconds, and light cure for 10 seconds. Alternately, an optional etch with phosphoric acid can be performed for 15 seconds prior to application of the adhesive. This simple application process helps Scotchbond Universal adhesive perform reliably, regardless of user technique. The product is moisture-tolerant, exhibiting high bond performance on both moist and dry substrates. Additionally, the adhesive bonds to all surfaces without primer, further simplifying its use.
In addition to the product’s streamlined procedure, practical considerations have been taken into account as well. A flip-top vial delivery option allows for one-hand operation, and the product can be stored at room temperature for up to two years. It is also available in unit dose.
