The Suncoast News: U.F. to Probe Role of HIV in Dental Disease

People infected with the AIDS virus often have to struggle with quickly progressing diseases of the mouth. Researchers at the University of Florida want to find out why this is.
After receiving $300,000 from the National Institutes of Health, a team from the U.F. colleges of medicine and dentistry led by principal investigator Dr. Gary Wang will study the effect HIV has on the bacteria that reside in the mouth. These bacteria either do no harm or actual play a role in maintaining oral health.
