Sacramento, Calif. - The CDA Foundation has awarded grants to five nonprofit organizations to fund a wide variety of community oral health projects across California.

The Foundation received more than 100 applications during its grant application process, and from those, the Grant Selection Committee choose the following nonprofit organizations:

. Fresh Start Surgical Gifts - Carlsbad. This grant will support the efforts of providing dental services to fully restore the oral health of 300 underserved children who are faced with complex dental conditions because of a facial deformity.
. Sacramento District Dental Foundation - Sacramento. This grant will support the purchase of much-needed supplies for SDDF's Smiles for Kids project, which will provide prevention, education and dental screening to 30,000 area children ranging from 1 to 18 years old.
. LifeLong Medical Care (Pediatric Oral Health Project) - Berkeley. This joint project of LifeLong Medical Care, the University of California at San Francisco and private dental practitioners will provide preventive and restorative care to 300 children. In addition, 1,000 patients will receive education on early health needs of their children. The grant funds will support the purchase of education materials, a new nitrous oxide mobile unit and a digital X-ray system.
. Children's Dental Health Clinic (IV Sedation/Specialty Care Area Program) - Long Beach. This project provides dental services to underserved children, special-needs children and children who have complex medical considerations. The grant will help support the program's pediatric dentist as well as an anesthesiologist. As a result of this project, the Children's Dental Health Clinic expects to provide 288 children access to treatment under IV sedation and reduce the wait list.
. Project Food Student-Run Health Clinic (Student-Run Health Clinic - Dental Expansion) - Riverside. This project will provide 150 working poor and homeless individuals with dental services free of charge. The grant will support the purchase of new mobile dental equipment and supplies.

The CDA Foundation Grant program provides nonprofit dental organizations with up to $25,000 in support of oral health projects. It is supported in part by corporate supporters Medelita, Olympic Dental & Medical Devices, and Sun Dental Studio.

To date, the CDA Foundation has provided nearly $4 million in grants to fund projects including community clinics, mobile dental programs and education programs strategically selected to improve the oral health of all Californians.
