Dentra Study Reveals Seattle Study Club Members in Washington State Exceeded In-state Peers in Quality Care Delivery in 2009

Dentra (www.dentra.com)’s custom analysis evaluates differences in performance on measures of patient retention, production, and growth

Chicago Dental Society Midwinter Meeting, Chicago, IL (Vocus) February 25, 2010 -- Dentra™, a leading provider of online quality measurement solutions, today released the findings of a study conducted on behalf of Seattle Study Club at the Chicago Dental Society Midwinter Meeting (www.cds.org/mwm_2010/) (booth #4818). The study reveals that, even during the challenging economic times of 2009, Washington state Seattle Study Club members in general practice consistently outperformed their in-state peers on measures of patient retention, production, and growth. Headquartered in Kirkland, WA, Seattle Study Club is an organization that represents a commitment to excellence in patient care by maintaining the highest level of knowledge in the field of dentistry. To conduct this study, Dentra selected key metrics from its online PracticeView quality measurement (www.dentra.com/solutions/practiceview/) system, leveraged its extensive proprietary data warehouse, and created unique comparison groups to evaluate differences in performance between Seattle Study Club members and in-state peers.

Key findings from the study reveal that Seattle Study Club showed:
• Higher production growth than in-state peers (3.8 percent vs. -0.6 percent) as measured by the percent change in production from Washington Dental Services (WDS)-covered patients seen between 2008 and 2009.
• Higher growth in patient volume than in-state peers (0.9 percent vs. -2.4 percent) as measured by the percent change in WDS-covered patients seen between 2008 and 2009.
• Higher rate of new patient retention than in-state peers (64 percent vs. 51 percent) as measured by percent of WDS-covered patients seen in 2008 for a comprehensive exam that were seen again for any service in 2009.

“Our international network of 241 clubs, representing 6,500 members in the U.S., Canada, Australia, Germany, Taiwan and the UK, is dedicated to improving dentistry, and providing the highest standard of patient-centered, comprehensive, interdisciplinary care,” explains Dr. Michael Cohen, DDS, MSD, PS, founder of the Seattle Study Club (www.seattlestudyclub.com/). “Dentra’s online solutions help organizations in the field concretely measure the quality of care delivery, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.”

“Joining forces with Seattle Study Club for this study was a natural fit as both our organizations strive to establish high quality standards to foster excellence of oral health delivery in the industry,” adds Amanda Twiss, Dentra’s president and CEO. “Our powerful custom analytics capabilities (www.dentra.com/solutions/custom-data-analysis/) enable the dental profession to benchmark against other organizations in the field, identify specific improvement areas, and take concrete action to enhance overall business performance and profitability.”
