CeraBur® K1SM Instruments Available in Three New Sizes

Rock Hill, SC – April 15, 2009 – KOMET USA’s innovative CeraBur® K1SM instruments, designed to work on soft, carious dentin with minimized reduction of sound tooth structure, are now available in three new sizes.

The three sizes include 012, 016 and 021, joining the four others currently on the market (010, 014, 018 and 023).  The CeraBur® K1SM instrument, made of high quality ceramic material, reduces or eliminates the need for explorers and spoons for evaluating decay removal.  As the CeraBur® K1SM instrument allows for superior tactile feeling, it informs the operator when it is safe to stop drilling.

The bur is also available in two shank types (right angle and right angle long) or as part of Kits 4547.RA or 4547.RASL, allowing the practitioners to feel the impact it can have on their procedures.

It is recommended to be used at 1,500 rpm during slow-speed excavation.  The CeraBur® K1SM’s white working part offers the user another distinct advantage – it stands out better against the brownish shade of the carious dentin than a tungsten carbide instrument. Because of its ceramic material, the instrument lasts longer, resists corrosion and is less likely to be affected by disinfection and the cleaning process. Users are recommended not to use a metal brush for cleaning.

Recently, more than 70% of key opinion leaders with Dental Team Concepts’ Catapult Coterie said they would use the CeraBur® K1SM instrument in their practice regularly.  Not only was the overall acceptance of the CeraBur® K1SM excellent, but testers’ confidence in caries removal using the instrument was extremely high.  In addition, the study had 75% of those testing the instrument believing they removed the right amount of infected dentin.

Dental Products Report listed the CeraBur® K1SM instrument among its Top 100 Products of Distinction for 2008.
