ORANGE, CA – February 1, 2009 – Following a legacy of innovative, quality products, Kerr is making history again, launching the latest innovation connected to the powerful Herculite brand: Herculite® Ultra™ nanohybrid composite. This universal composite offers advanced nanofiller technology, delivering superior aesthetics and optimal handling. Other features include high polishability, and strength and endurance unique to the Herculite brand. Herculite Ultra chameleon-like blending improves the lifelike appearance of the final restoration by replicating the opalescence and fluorescence of the natural tooth.
To date over 250 million teeth have been filled using Herculite, considered the gold standard of composites for over 20 years. “In building upon a clinically proven foundation like Herculite, Kerr was able to produce a material that gives you everything clinicians have grown to love about Herculite while enhancing esthetics and polishability,” said Kerr U.S. Product Manager Mikhanh Pham. “We are updating a great product with current technology, building on the successful Herculite platform that has been firmly established with long-term studies and great market acceptance over the years.” Principle Scientist Al Kobashigawa explains further: “Our goal for Herculite Ultra was to retain the resin chemistry, tooth translucency and comprehensive shading to retain the esthetics and clinical performance of Herculite. The new submicron nanohybrid filler technology improves handling, polishability, clinical gloss and wear resistance; and new additives improve esthetics with fluorescence and opalescence. With these improvements, Herculite Ultra approaches a truly biomimetic restoration, mimicking the tooth itself.”
The advantages of nanohybrid composites are significant—from better aesthetics to improved polish and clinical gloss as well as better mechanical strength. Nanohybrids contain nanoparticles, much smaller filler particles in the range of approximately 5 to 100 nanometres. When combined with conventional hybrid fillers, these composite resins are called nanohybrids.
The resin matrix science remains unchanged in Herculite Ultra, offering the same clinical efficacy and longevity with proven mechanical strength after curing, the same great color stability, and consistent clinical performance. And three fillers—prepolymerized filler (PPF), nanoparticles (50 nm), and a submicron hybrid filler (0.4 µm)—work in concert for the ultimate esthetics and performance.
