New Lecture Teaching Lab Techs Proper Occlusion & Function
Part of Dawson Academy’s New Core Curriculum

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

St. Petersburg, FL – May 12, 2008 – The Dawson Academy is offering a new lecture that teaches laboratory technicians not only how to create stable restorations, but the anatomy and function of the masticatory system.

The two-and-a-half day lecture, Occlusion & Function for Lab Technicians, will be given by Vernon “Buddy” Shafer, Jr, CDT, and will take place Aug. 21-23, 2008 at the Mid-Atlantic Center in Chesapeake, VA.  It is limited to 20 technicians, and technicians completing the course will receive a total of 19 continuing education credits.  The lecture falls under The Dawson Academy new Core Curriculum.

About the Lecture
As dentists have progressed through Dr. Peter Dawson’s Concept of Complete Dentistry SeriesSM, they have frequently expressed the need for a laboratory technician who understands the principles of occlusion with whom they can work to achieve their desired results.  This course was developed as a primer to address this need, for those technicians wishing to practice complete dentistry.  This intense program was designed to advance the knowledge and skills of intermediate level technicians.  This interactive program will cover the masticatory system, anatomic and functional harmony, the temporomandibular joint, centric relation, anterior guidance, envelope of function, the neutral zone, long centric, vertical dimension, the occlusal plane, occlusal stops, requirements for occlusal stability, instrumentation and more.  This course is a unique opportunity for technicians to learn about the function of the masticatory system in an environment just for them.  Tuition for this lecture is $1,195 per technician.

About The Dawson Academy’s Core Curriculum
Students finishing The Dawson Academy Core Curriculum will have a complete understanding of the optimum oral health and dysfunction of each part of the masticatory system as well as the supporting structures.  Additionally, students will have a profound understanding of contemporary esthetic procedures providing their patients with beautiful, functionally correct dentistry.  Treatment decisions will be based upon a standardized comprehensive examination.  Through a programmed approach to treatment planning, graduates of the core curriculum will know when reshaping, repositioning, restorative and/or orthognathic surgery is the correct option.
