Hydrophilicity, Setting Kinetics and Color Optimization
Ease Readability and Impression Taking
Ivoclar Vivadent, Inc. has introduced a new line of impression materials that combines the most desirable attributes of vinyl polysiloxane impression materials into one system. Available in both fast and regular setting times, the system features two viscosities of wash material (light body and extra-light body), a high viscosity tray material (heavy body), putty, and a monophase material. Additionally, the monophase and heavy body materials are available in both 50ml and 75ml cartridges. The system is complimented with a fast setting bite registration material and a full line of accessories including a new hand-held, cordless, rechargeable dispenser. With built-in speed and flow controls the new dispenser allows dental professionals to configure the dispenser to meet their specific needs and to load tray material at the push of a button.
Virtual impression materials have proven wettability in the mouth. Although many vinyl polysiloxane systems have hydrophilic properties based on measurements of contact angles of stone slurry placed on set impression material, the hydrophilic properties of Virtual impression materials are based on contact angles of unset material placed on moist dentin and moist tissue, simulating the actual conditions during the impression taking step. Additionally, Virtual impression materials facilitate excellent moisture displacement.
The new Virtual impression materials offer adequate working times with fast setting times. The amount of time between “working time” and “gel point” has been reduced, lowering the risk of distortion after the tray has been seated in the mouth. While providing adequate working time for larger cases, the material quickly moves into the setting phase once the tray has been inserted into the mouth. Once placed in the mouth, Virtual materials set within 4.5 minutes when using the regular set materials, or 2.5 minutes when using the fast set materials. Along with the fast set time, the cool mint flavor of Virtual materials facilitate patient comfort.
What’s more, because accuracy of final impressions is so important, Virtual features combinations of beige wash materials and blue tray materials to facilitate excellent readability and contrast, so dental professionals can be assured that they have captured the fine details of preparation margins.
