Academy of General Dentistry Launches Redesigned Web Site and Publications
CHICAGO (July 20, 2007) - The Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) recently unveiled its newly redesigned Web site, www.agd.org, and its two publications, General Dentistry and AGD Impact, during the opening session of its Annual Meeting & Exhibits held in San Diego, June 27 - July 1, 2007.
"We know that in order to be the go to organization for all of general dentistry and the patients who our members serve, the AGD must have a strong online and print presence," says AGD Executive Director Christie Tarantino, CAE. "Our Web site had a wealth of information for both dentists and the public, but we recognized that the information wasn't always that easy to find. The new structure makes it easier for our visitors to get the information they need when they need it."
The redesigned Web site now has a fresh, clean image, improved navigation and more interactive features that create more value for members and other visitors. New and improved features on the Web site include:
.Content organized from the user's perspective and not based on the AGD's structure. Information is presented in a more logical structure that allows users who are not familiar with the AGD to find information more easily and quickly.
.Dynamic menus that allow users to easily drill down into content categories, eliminating many of the clicks required in the past to find information.
."Express buttons" for frequent actions, such as member login, checking continuing dental education transcripts, locating other members through an online directory and entry to the AGD member forums.
.Prominent and consolidated space for patient information content.
.More than 200 updated patient education articles on oral health that feature information on everything from bleaching and braces to pregnancy.
.A dental health forum, SmileLine, which allows the public to receive free dental advice from an AGD member dentist.
.A new pressroom that includes current releases, an archive of previous releases, oral health resources and quick facts about the AGD.
.A revamped publications library where visitors can search AGD Impact and General Dentistry by author, issue, and subject code. Readers also can vote on the most popular and/or accessed articles.
"The AGD's publications are considered must reads among the general dentistry profession," says Tarantino. "The AGD Editor, Dr. Roger Winland, along with our publications staff has spent the better part of the last year listening to reader feedback, enhancing current 'departments,' and developing designs to improve the reader's experience."
Both publications have a revamped design that allows for easier readability through the use of new fonts and increased white space. The newly designed table of contents in both publications makes it easier for readers to find what they're looking for. Also, the new masthead for both publications shares the main focus of each magazine: AGD Impact focuses on business, education, and advocacy, and General Dentistry focuses on clinical, yet practical, information that readers can incorporate into their daily practice.
Highlights of the new and improved features to AGD Impact, the monthly newsmagazine, include:
.New columns from respected professionals, including an ethics column by noted ethicists Dave Ozar, PhD and Don Patthoff, DDS, as well as a finance column from Brian Hufford, CEO of Hufford Financial.
.An expanded section that highlights the advocacy efforts and achievements of the AGD.
.A redesigned marketplace section, which features new products.
Highlights for General Dentistry, the bi-monthly clinical, peer-reviewed journal, include:
.Two new columns that feature clinical articles on prosthodontics and special patient care.
.A new layout of the Self-Instruction exercises, the Self-Assessment quizzes, and Oral Diagnosis, which makes it easier to obtain continuing dental education credit.
.Brief biographies of advisory board members and columnists compiled at the front of each issue for easy reference.
